Marta Barnard

Marta met her husband 18 years ago, after her first week of practicing yoga. She believes that practicing yoga opens us up to love, to love ourselves and others.

She is an Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) and YACEP with the Yoga Alliance.  Marta has taught over 4000 workshops and classes since 2008.  She trained “one on one” with Janine Gustafson and is proud to have been the first yoga teacher she (Janine) trained at Yoga Okoboji..

Marta is also a choreographer, a movement and acting coach and has experience teaching a variety of styles of movement from West African dance to Modern Movement Meditations/ Ecstatic Dance and Shakespeare. Her students have ranged in age from 3 to 103. She wants people to experience the joy of movement and yoga throughout their entire lives. Learning to free the natural voice and body in yoga practice helps to replace stress with health, creativity and joy. Her approach to teaching Yoga is to help practitioners learn to breath fully, feel deeply and find their center. Her classes are gentle and filled with humor and practical tips on alignment that can help students release pain both emotional and physical.

Marta teaches Laughter Yoga several times a month in Ebenizer Memory Care Unit and Accura Care Center (Hilltop).  She recently taught it at the Iowa Lakes Community College Wellness Retreat for Staff and Faculty.

Many of those who practice with Marta find her classes filled with tips to remain functional  as they age. She has worked privately with people with Parkinson’s, ALS, Dementia, stroke survivors and those with sciatica and back pain. If you want a schedule a private class or book a Laughter Yoga workshop call her at 712 229 5827 or email  martabarnard@yahoo.com.
